After a mere year and a half, I have finally finished decorating the master bedroom. And, while I have no grey hairs on my head (knock on wood...I'm officially 40 now, so it probably won't be long!) our bedroom has definitely gone grey.
After the movers broke our bedroom dresser beyond repair, I ditched everything but the bed (the other pieces are now used for tool storage in the garage and clothes storage in my closet...which is still a mess so no pics of that). I will eventually make a velvet headboard with a double row of nickel plated tacks around the perimeter (which will make a lot more sense with those pillows), but that's just not a priority yet.
The bowfront pieces were old, dilapidated things (paid $100 total for both the horizontal and tall dressers) that I then fixed up quite a bit. You can read about the transformation of the tall dresser and the chandelier HERE.
The nightstands are from Target online, but I changed the knobs to shiny ones.
Since Steve is very much a masculine, "I will never wear pink or purple, even on a tie" kind of guy, I knew the decor couldn't get too girly in here...hence the bold graphic fabrics and strong lines. I made all the pillows, which was fun. You will notice they have no welting on them (wink).
On the velvet pillow I hand-stitched a sweet little heart to give it some more character. Awww...
Okay, be honest: do you instantly think "Rugby Stripes" when you see these drapes? Because I do. Unfortunately I have so much time and material invested in them that I don't have the heart to make new ones. Plus they're really dark. I think eventually I'll make white ones with a single wide band of printed fabric at the top, but again, it's just not a priority right now.
The painting is one I did several years ago - I think it's been about 10 years now. I really need to get painting again! I have several big pieces planned for the living room and other parts of the house, and I'm dying to start on them. I don't have room to paint (they're going to be huge paintings) in this house, but hopefully I'll get something figured out soon. Gotta get rid of the disorganized mishmash of stuff in some of the rooms before I launch into painting though.
I had forgotten how much marigolds and mums stink until I picked some little bouquets from the yard for the photo shoot...no wonder deer stay away from marigolds! I had to bring them in for a spot of feminity though. And you can't smell a computer screen.
Hazel didn't seem to mind the smell. Or maybe it's just because her nose is still stuffed up. She has been my constant companion these past 3 days as she recuperates from her fever/sore throat/croup cough. Poor kid. We have done lots of crafts together, and not much else...besides taking photos and blogging, that is.
Oh - I almost forgot to post pics of the bedroom before I ripped out the carpet and had the partial walls removed...
I simply can't believe how much the kids have grown in the past 2 years! This was taken before we bought the place. Notice the 2 silly little walls behind Hazel.
They went bye-bye, as there was no other place to put a horizontal dresser except for that spot.
This was taken after I had ripped up the carpet and started installing the floor. Glad that's all done. I don't particularly enjoy installing floors, but this one wasn't too bad since it was a floating engineered wood version.
...and here we are full circle. Now I really do need to get outside and finish that firepit.
U r so creative!

Yes, you are unbelievably creative! I'm amazed. AND (drum roll please!) you got ahead of me on your posts. It's unprecedented! You snuck those posts right in there. Your bedroom is beautiful but Hazel is even more so. She definitely is a keeper. I love her hair! I can't wait to see the fire pit (just had to egg you on a little!). I'm thrilled to see you back posting! Keep up the good work.

Shelley, you are so amazing! I love seeing all your projects! Question: what color did you paint your living room walls? I think I want to copy it. :)

Not rugby stripes AT ALL. You have such a great eye, and I think everything works together very well.
