The Mighty Mustache, 6 year old girly style...
This was the easiest birthday cake I have ever "made"...thank you, Costco, for your contribution to Hazel's mustache party! She wanted chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, so hey - why not? I think this is the first birthday cake I have ever purchased rather than made. I felt slighty guilty, or perhaps indulgent (or lazy?), but considering the fact that I had to make Hyrum's cake the same day (and he requested a 3-D tank) I justified the departure from homemade-ness.
It looks pretty cute with those girly mustaches on it...if you can call mustaches girly at all!
Here we see the cute t-shirt that inspired the mustache party - we all had so much fun with this one!
I ordered a bunch of die-cut mustaches from amazon and attached the bamboo skewers with black electrical tape.
We had invited some close family friends and neighbors to celebrate with us, and it was great.
My awesome friend Jaime was much better at the whole "pose with a mustache" thing than I was...her expressions were hilarious. I was trying to do the one eyebrow up, the other one down like she was, but I, um, clearly lack that talent.
So Hyrum is a huge fan of Tanki Online, and he requested a tank cake this year. He showed me pictures of the modern, streamlined tanks on the game, but when I saw the camo sugar paper (a Wilton product) I thought an old-school tank would be a better fit. At first Hyrum wasn't too convinced about that, but in the end he was pretty excited about his tank cake.
Please don't judge the crazy, amateurish piping job - it was after midnight (remember Hazel's party was the same day, so I was slightly busy until the kids went to bed) and plus I think I must be getting carpal tunnel or something because I just can't pipe a good line of frosting anymore to save my life. The concept of it was decent, anyway, even if the execution was clumsy.
The kids all loved it, so that's what matters, right? I just won't be applying for a job at one of those fancy cake shops anytime soon. :-)
Happy Birthday to my sweet boy and little baby girl who isn't little (or a baby) anymore! And yes, I took a nice, recuperative nap the day after the parties were over. The end.
So excited to see Jaime J at your party! She and her family are missed around these parts, as is yours. Darling birthday cakes!

Love both cakes. I love chocolate anything and the tank is awesome. I love Hyrum's headless picture. That's what I'd like to do if anyone tries to take my picture. But Hyrum is handsome! His pictures are great. The girls are all smiles - loving seeing everyone happy.

Wonderful birthday party ideas! And I think buying the chocolate cake was definitely the way to go. I know how you feel though about the guilt.... You're awesome.
