I love gourds. I have always been so fascinated by the infinite variety and endless creativity, if you will, of these beautiful little squash. I love the stripes, the bumps, the changes of color (sometimes in such abrupt fashion that they look unreal. How on earth are some of them exactly half green and half yellow?!), the shapes of the gourds themselves....I could go on and on about the explosion of options in a gourd.
God is definitely the best designer of all time.
I want to sneak in another thing to be grateful for today (since I was struggling to find something to be grateful for yesterday)...I'm grateful for a holiday which is centered on gratitude! (Okay, okay, I have to admit I'm also very excited about the food aspect of Thanksgiving...just thinking of all the cinnamon, apples, pumpkins, cranberries, and turkey just makes me giddy! And then I remember how much work it is making all of that food, and I get tired. And hungry!)
Being grateful is such an important virtue to cultivate, and it's something I should focus on a lot more than I do. Seeing the beautiful things of the earth helps me to remember that there is still much good in the world, and that God is at the helm. I need to trust in Him and focus on the many blessings that I enjoy, and trust that everything will work out in the end.
