Well, today was supposed to be Hazel's big birthday party, but Eliza woke up this morning with the flu, and the rest of us have been feeling pretty punky all day, so we had to call it off. I'm just glad I hadn't actually assembled and decorated the cake yet, and all the layers are now wrapped and frozen. It's going to be a gigantic cake, I can't wait to see it all put together.
In the meantime, I'll have to just post this desperate attempt at a last-minute dinner that my kids would eat:
Look closely; that's not a hotdog or a sausage in there - it's a hamburger! We had gotten home right at dinner time that day, and since the kids can be picky eaters, my choices for fixing something quick that we 1) had ingredients for and 2) they would actually eat were pretty limited. So the dog-shaped hamburger was born, and the kids thought it was a great novelty.
I'm not sure if I would make this again, though - those brown cylinders sitting in that frying pan just didn't look very appetizing, if you get my drift.... :-) That's why they're covered in cheese and tomatoes - and if I had had lettuce, I would have put some shredded lettuce on there as well! It's amazing how much effect aesthetics have on whether or not something tastes good to me. My kids, however, didn't make the potty connection and they loved them. Bon apetit!
I wonder if i could get my boys to eat a hamburger that looked like that. Worth a try!
