I love skirts. I love making cute little skirt sets for my daughter Eliza, and I especially love it when she wears them.
We went through a little phase a year or so ago when she absolutely refused to wear anything that I had made for her, BECAUSE I had made them for her. But after I backed off and stopped trying to influence her wardrobe choices, she decided to start wearing them again. She has an independent soul, even when she was 3.
This Olivia set is one of my favorites. I painted Olivia jumping rope on the shirt, and 5 coats of white fabric paint later it turned out great. It's almost too small for her now, she's growing up so fast.
You can't really tell from the photo, but this darling pink fabric is embroidered with cheerful green crabs. Hence the green crab painted on her shirt.
We took Eliza to see The Nutcracker, her first ballet, last Christmas. She was so thrilled, partly because she loves ballerinas and partly because it was a very special night out with Mommy and Daddy, and Hyrum had to stay home with a babysitter. This was her Christmas dress, and the bottom white part with the embroidery was a window valance.
I think Eliza was much more interested in looking at the Christmas goodies than in posing for me, but she humored me anyway. Can you tell I like to use ribbon as trim?
Eliza and her cousin were so excited to have matching twirly skirts. The letters on the shirts were done with fabric paint.
It was not a happy picture day for the Detton kids. This is as good as it got that day. Maybe they were all riled up because subconsciously they knew that the photo had too much red in it. The annual Christmas Card Portrait is usually a pretty painful experience, and this one was no exception! The scotty dogs on their shirts were made by fusing red circles onto the shirts and painting the design in the middle, adding a little ribbon for accent.
Hazel's not too sure what to think about her older cousin. "Why does she keep patting my tummy and laughing?" she thought to herself. "What's so funny?"
More coordinating cousin outfits...
"Gee," thought Hazel. "Mom sure likes to take pictures of us. I'm not so sure about all this."
"Relax," smiled Eliza. "Someday you'll have teeth and you will be able to practice for toothpaste commercials like me!"
